Former President of India, Pranab Mukherjee expressed concerns over allegations of EVM tampering after a series of video clips emerged showing EVMs out of the strong rooms, being transported in private vehicles in parts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab and Haryana.
In a statement he says, "The safety and security of EVMs which are in the custody of the EC is the responsibility of the Commission. There can be no room for speculation that challenge the very basis of our democracy. People's mandate is sacrosanct and has to be above any iota of reasonable doubt ... A firm believer in our institutions, it is my considered opinion that it is the 'workmen' who decide how the institutional 'tools' perform."

Over the past 24 hours, two days ahead of counting the EVMs multiple video show EVMs being carried in private vehicles and being transported without set protocols and guidelines.
These remarks come at a time when there are serious allegations if the Election Commission performed its duties in a free and fair manner, when it came to violations of the model code of conduct by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the ruling party.
