Former MP Police Chief Rishi Kumar Shukla To Head CBI

A Former Madhya Pradesh Director General of Police Rishi Kumar Shukla belonging to the 1983-IPS batch was appointed as the Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

His name was chosen from a shortlist of 30 contenders by a committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Mr. Shukla was granted a 2 year term in office.




Rishi Kumar Shukla is 58 year old, and is believed to be a close associate of former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan. He had served as the Police Chief in Madhya Pradesh, and currently heads the Madhya Pradesh Police Housing Corporation.

On Friday, the Supreme Court pulled up the government for delaying the appointment of the CBI chief. The CBI was previously headed by Alok Verma, who was removed on charges of accepting bribes. In the interim M Nageswara Rao was heading the CBI.

The high powered committee that appoints the CBI is headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it also includes Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Opposition leader Mallikarjun Kharge.
