Former Cricketer Gautam Gambhir Joins BJP, Likely To Contest From Delhi

Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has taken the political plunge by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday. With less than a few weeks to go for the Lok Sabha elections, he is most likely to be fielded as a candidate from one of the seven Delhi Lok Sabha seats.

The cricketer has been active voice, and has expressed his opinion on social and security issues. There was always a speculation about him joining a political outfit to reach to wider audience.

Gambhir joined the BJP in the presence of Union Ministers Arun Jaitley and Ravi Shankar Prasad. He said, “I am joining this party (BJP) after getting influenced by PM Narendra Modi’s vision. I am honoured to get the opportunity to join this platform.”

The cricketer was conferred with the Padma Shri award earlier this year  and received a congratulatory letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Gambhir has had a terrific cricketing career, only time will tell how his political career will take shape.
