England defeated defending champions Australia to storm into the finals of the 2019 Cricket World Cup. Hosts England will face New Zealand at Lord’s on the 14th of July.
This would be the England’s 4th World Cup final appearance and the first time since 1992.
Australia were bowled out for 223 after Chris Woakes, Jofra Archer and Adil Rashid took 3 wickets each for England. While chasing the low scorer total, openers Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow added 124 for the first wicket before Joe Root and Eoin Morgan steered the hosts to a win.
Jason Roy scored a 65-ball 85 during the chase.
Earlier, Australia captain Aaron Finch decided to bat first after winning the toss. Australia lost three wickets as they passed the double digit score. Later, Steve Smith alongside Alex Carey added 103 for the 4th wicket.
However, things turned to England’s favour in the 28th over after Adil Rashid dismissed Carey and Marcus Stoinis. Mitchell Starc scored an impressive 29 but he fell soon with Smith in consecutive deliveries. Steve Smith was run out for 85 while Starc fell to Woakes in the 48th over.
Now, England battle it out with New Zealand for the World Cup crown on Sunday.
