A female drug inspector was shot dead at her office in Punjab’s Kharar town on Friday. The accused then later shot himself by mistake after a chase. The police said, the gunman survived the bullet wounds and was taken to a hospital.
The 38 year old woman was inspector Neha Shorie, and she was posted as the Zonal Licensing Official with the Drug and Food Chemical Laboratory in Kharar. She conducted raids and cancelled licence of the accused chemist shop ten years back.
After spraying four bullets into the inspector, the accused tried to run away his motorcycle, which was parked outside. The attendant of the Laboratory chased and caught hold of the assailant, after falling on the road the man pulled out his gun to shoot the attendant, instead fired at himself.
The police in a statement said, “The accused went to the woman’s office and fired two rounds. Then, he tried to run away. Police reached the spot immediately and took the accused into custody. He is undergoing treatment a hospital in Chandigarh.”
The Punjab Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh, directed the officials incharge to conduct quick investigation into the officer’s murder and asked them to ensure that the accused was quickly punished for his crimes.
During raids huge cache of intoxicants were recovered from the assailants shop in 2008.
