A driver caught doing 130mph on a motorway claimed he was speeding to avoid being infected with Covid-19.
Surrey Police said they pulled the motorist over after clocking him at almost double the speed limit.
The driver told gobsmacked officers: ‘I thought the faster I went the less chance I would catch coronavirus.’
Tweeting the bizarre response, the force confirmed he had been charged and reported to court.
Earlier, a driver pulled over after being clocked at 110mph with two children in the back told police he was making a round-trip to London to buy bread because it’s cheaper than where he lives in Nottingham.
The Metropolitan Police revealed that another motorist was caught speeding twice in as many days on the same stretch in Enfield, north London. Detective Superintendent Andy Cox, head of the force’s roads policing command, said: ‘Some people just don’t learn their lesson.’
