President Donald Trump announced at a gathering in Ohio his willingness to withdraw the United States from Syria. Trump has given 6 months time to his military and security advisors to start preparations.
His decision was termed as rash and was widely criticised by experts. This means that Russia would gain stronger ground in Syria.
Trump’s GOP allies believe this is grave mistake.
Discussions on the withdrawal and the pace at which troops will be pulled out were held at the White House. There was no detailed communication on the decision or any specifications on the withdrawal as yet.
President Donald Trump said-
“We have won against ISIS, We’ve beaten them and we’ve beaten them badly. We’ve taken back the land and now it’s time for our troops to come back home. I get very saddened when I have to write letters or call parents or wives or husbands of soldiers who have been killed fighting for our country.”
The decision to withdraw was a ‘total surprise’ for many. The US government did not consult the Syrian Government on its decision nor did let it’s allies know about it. The news was a shock to many as it would reduce the influence of the United States in the Middle east and give more play to Russia.
Let’s see how does President Trump’s decision falter next year when the actual withdrawal takes place.
