Delhi: Schools shut following deteriorating pollution levels

Schools in Delhi to be shut till November 15 due to rising stubble pollution levels in North India.

Manish Sisodia said that the government has decided to shut all the government schools and private schools in the national capital tomorrow and the day after tomorrow.

In a tweet, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia wrote: “In view of the deteriorating situation due to stubble pollution in North India, the Delhi government has decided to close all the government and private schools of Delhi for tomorrow and the day after tomorrow.”

On Wednesday, the pollution levels in the city approached the ’emergency’ zone for the third time in the last 15 days.

The Delhi government on November 1 had decided to shut all schools till November 5 after a Supreme Court-mandated panel declared a public health emergency in Delhi-NCR in the wake of spike in pollution level.

According to weather experts, a fall in the temperature and wind speed led to the accumulation of pollutants. The problem was compounded by a cloud cover that blocked sunlight.
