Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Delhi Daredevils changed their name to Delhi Capitals on Tuesday in the lead to the 12th edition of the league.
The change was announced in the capital city by the owners of the franchise GMR Group and JSW Sports.
The Delhi franchise is one of the three sides in IPL history who have not won the title in the previous 11 editions.
IPL 2018 was a disaster for Delhi as they finished last in the eight-team league. Gautam Gambhir, who began the season as their captain, stepped down and handed over captainship to Shreyas Iyer.
Apart from the name change, the Capitals also announced that Iyer would continue to remain as the captain for the 12th season.
Australian legend Ricky Ponting continues as head coach and his Assistant is Mohammad Kaif.
The name change has become a topic of debate, several cricket fans were unhappy with the franchise's new name.
The Delhi squad now has a powerful batting lineup Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw and Shreya Iyer. Let's wait and see if the name change and the new side turn things around for good.
