Chennai Super Kings defeated Delhi Capitals to return to the top of the IPL points table. CSK’s powerful bowlers buried Delhi Capitals batsmen defeating them by 80 runs on Wednesday. It was Suresh Raina who laid the foundation with a marvelous 37 ball 59, while Dhoni did what he was good at by smashing 44 from 22. Later, when Capitals came to chase they fell completely after scoring 99 runs in 16.2 overs.
This was a surprising collapse for Shreyas and Co. CSK after the win sit on top of the points table with 18 points, while DC are a close second with 16 points.
The Delhi Capitals suffered their worst collapse of the season in the hands of South African spinner Imran Tahir who picked up 4/12, Ravindra Jadeja got 3/9 tearing up the middle order.
MS Dhoni who is known for his quick work behind the stumps dismissed Shreyas Iyer on 44 and Chris Morris for a duck. Shikhar Dhawan ended his innings on 19. It was just Dhawan and Iyer who reached the double digit run score in the entire batting innings of the Capitals.
While batting first, Raina and Faf du Plessis added 83 runs for the second wicket. Raina got 59, while Faf du Plessis picked up 39. It was MSD who got CSK to the 160 total after whacking Trent Boult in the final over for 20 runs. Dhoni’s quick firepower shots took him to a strike rate of 200 percent as he scored 44 off 22 balls.
Jadeja too smashed 25 off 10 balls to boost the Super Kings score.
Shane Watson who played eight balls was gone for zero.
