The ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 — the tournament began six days back on the 30th May but India are still get their first match.
Most of the teams have already played or would finish playing two games before India step into the tournament. India would face South Africa on Wednesday, which would be the 3rd game for South Africa which seems unfair. The reason for the delay is because India are “recuperating from the Indian Premier League,” Bizzare right!!!
India were to play their first game on the 2nd of June against Bangladesh, but the International Cricket Council (ICC) changed the schedule at the request of Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI).
The BCCI cited guidelines of the Lodha Committee, which was formed by the Supreme Court to clean up cricket administration in India. The Lodha Committee guidelines mandate that India only play International Cricket post a 15-day recovery period after the IPL.
Therefore ICC to push back the date of the first match.
The IPL ended on the 12th May, so the recovery period would have ended on the 27th May, well in time for the 2nd June match. But the initial schedule of the IPL 12 was to end on the 19th May, but the dates of the IPL were revised to avoid clash with the Indian general elections.
Well some may ask why didn’t BCCI change the schedule of the IPL keeping the international tournament in mind? Well for the fact that the BCCI is the financial muscle for the cricketing world, the ICC are forced to obey the Indian cricketing body.
