A couple in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh allegedly sold their new born boy to a businessman for INR ₹150,000 (approximately USD $2,050) only to use the money to buy a second-hand car.
The incident came to light after the infant’s maternal grandparents filed a police complaint against the parents at the Tirwa Kotwali police station area of Kannauj district.
The police report said that ‘their daughter along with her husband sold the newborn child to a Gursahaiganj-based businessman to purchase a second-hand four-wheeler for INR ₹150,000’.
This is not an isolated case, several such incidents have taken place in the past in India and the world..
