The dates for the coming general elections are still to be announced by the Election Commission of India (ECI), the Congress accused the ECI of deliberately delaying the announcement to allow the Prime Minister to continue launching a series of schemes and welfare programs that would not be possible once model code of conduct comes into effect.

Senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel levelled the allegations in a series of tweets. Patel also accused the government of campaigning “till the last moment using public money”.
The Prime Minister is doing state visits at the nth moment to launch last minute schemes, the Prime Minister visited Mr. Gandhi’s bastion Amethi, toured Gujarat to inaugurate the Ahmedabad metro. The Prime Minister will visit Ghaziabad, Kanpur and Banaras to lay foundation stones for metro, and through video conference lay the foundation for Nagpur metro.
The cabinet minister of Prime Minister Modi too are in a spree of inaugurating projects, transport minister Nitin Gadkari announced inaugural of 60 projects, while railway minister Piyush Goyal is not far behind.
The Election Commission is touring state to state to review the preparations for the elections.
During the 2014 General elections, the ECI announced the polling dates on the 5th of March.
