Congress announces 6 candidates for Delhi, Sheila Dikshit to contest

Sheila Dixit a three time chief minister of Delhi, along with five others were named Congress candidates for the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. The announcement of candidates confirms that talks of an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi have ended.

South Delhi, one seat of the 7 Lok Sabha constituencies of Delhi was left out. Reports suggest that 1984 anti-Sikh riots accused Sajjan Kumar’s brother, Ramesh Kumar would contest from here.

The list of candidates was announced just two days before date to file nomination ends. Delhi is set to vote on the 12th of May.

Former Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit would contest from North East Delhi. Former President of Delhi Congress, Ajay Maken will contest as the Congress candidate from New Delhi. The other candidates are Arvinder Singh Lovely from East Delhi, JP Agarwal from Chandni Chowk, Rajesh Lilothia from North West Delhi and Mahabal Mishra from West Delhi.

Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party announced list of candidates weeks back, one of their candidate also filed nominations on the 18th of April. However, the party withheld filing of nominations for three seats as negotiations were continuing. Now, since it’s confirmed that there is no Congress- AAP alliance in Delhi, all seats would face a triangular contest Congress-BJP- AAP.

In the 2014 general elections, BJP won all the seven seats.
