CBI officials who came to raid Kolkata police chief arrested

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials who tried to enter the residence of Kolkata Police Commissioner were arrested today. The CBI officials turned up at the Park street police chief’s residence only to find police guards drag them to the Park Street Police Station and then to the local Shakespeare Sarani police station.

The Police Chief Rajeev Kumar and chief minister Mamata Banerjee had closed door meetings to discuss on how to proceed. Ms. Mamata Banerjee thrashed the Central BJP government for targeting the police chief, she said that the police chief  was brave, honest and works 24/7 for the people of Kolkata.

Trinamool Congress senior leader Derek O’Brien tweeted, asking if BJP was planning a coup by sending 40 CBI officers to the home of the police commissioner.

The CBI was investigating the Saradha and Rose Valley Ponzi scams that the police chief Rajeev Kumar investigated in 2013, it seems that the police chief failed to respond to summons on questioning. Furthermore several key documents on these cases allegedly went missing.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP chief Amit Shah for sending the CBI to the police commissioner’s home without warrant. She promised to hold a agitation to “Save Democracy.”
