Bulandshahr violence accused welcomed with garlands and chants of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ after being released on bail

Accused in killing Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh, key conspirator Shikhar Agarwal received a heroic welcome after being released on bail on Saturday.

Supporters garlanded and took turns to click pictures and selfies with the accused amidst cheers and  slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’, ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’, and ‘Vande Mataram’.

The other accused who were released on bail were Jeetu Fauji, Shikhar Agarwal, Upendra Singh Raghav, Hemu, Saurav and Rohit Raghav.

Violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr broke out after a group of activists allegedly found carcasses of cows in Mahav village. Following the discovery, a mob of around 400 right wingers violently rampaged through the Chingrawathi village. They set fire to dozens of vehicles, hurled stones and also fired guns at police who retaliated with gunfire.

Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh and one person from the mob were killed in the violent clashes.

Shikhar Agarwal was a Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha member, was arrested a few days after the Bulandshahr mob violence. He had also released a video in which he claimed that Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh was corrupt and had threatened to kill him.

In March 2019, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) filed a charge sheet against 38 people out of which only five were charged with the murder of Subodh Kumar Singh.
