Australia defeated Pakistan by 41 runs on Wednesday in Taunton to register their third win of World Cup 2019.
The game had several outstanding individual performances starting with David Warner, who smashed his 15th ODI hundred and 2nd in World Cups. While, Pakistan’s Mohammad Amir grabbed 5 wickets for 30, Hasan Ali and Wahab Riaz played a special knock with the bat after a flop show by the top order.
Australia set Pakistan a 308-run target. Pakistan who needed a solid start was jolted when Pat Cummins removed Fakhar Zaman for a duck in the 3rd over. Babar Azam who dangerous in his 28 ball 30, added a 54 for the 2nd wicket before falling to Nathan Coulter-Nile.
Later, Imam-ul-Haq came out to anchor the innings as Mohammad Hafeez came out and played some unique shots. The pair brought Pakistan back into the game with an entertaining 80 run stand. However, Imam-ul-Haq played a horror shot after he completed his fifty.
When Finch bowled a full toss to Mohammad Hafeez it was hit straight to Mitchell Starc at deep square leg in the 27th over. Soon, Shoaib Malik fell to Cummins in the 28th over. Asif Ali was removed in the 30th over.
When Hasan Ali came out to bat, he smashed the ball behind the fence giving some hope to Pakistan. He collected 32 from 15 balls, while Wahab Riaz played a great sport in the lower order. Sarfaraz Ahmed, Wahab brought Pakistan really close, the two added 64 in less than 10 overs. However at the end of the day Pakistan were outplayed by the Australians.
Earlier, when Australia batted first they scored 165 in the first 25 over and managed 142 from remaining 24 overs. David Warner and Aaron Finch batted wonderfully, Warner reached his 3rd successive hundred against Pakistan in ODIs.
Australia see Sri Lanka on the 15th of June, while Pakistan take on India on 16th June.
