National Security Adviser, Ajit Doval’s has been granted cabinet status and term extended five more years.
The news agency ANI reported that, “He [Ajit Doval] has been given cabinet rank in recognition of his contribution in the national security domain.”
He was earlier placed in the Minister of State rank.
74-year-old Ajit Doval is in charge of the national security establishment that includes all anti-terror and intelligence outfits, is among the most powerful officers in the country. The 1968-batch Indian Police Service officer was a former Intelligence Bureau chief.
He is also credited with solving the Doklam standoff between India and China in 2017 when the two countries were engaged in a bitter turf war for several months.
Doval also oversaw the Balakot air strike after the Pulwama terror attack and the 2016 surgical strikes after the Uri strike.
There was much speculation about Ajit Doval after Prime Minister Narendra Modi took oath for the second time last week, after his longtime aide Amit Shah was made incharge of Home Ministry and former Home Minister Rajnath Singh moving to Defence.
