Air India Makes It Mandatory For Crew To Say ‘Jai Hind’ After Every Announcement

The national carrier Air India has issued an advisory to the crew today, the Air India crew now have to say “Jai Hind” after every flight announcement.

The advisory issued by the Director of Operations Amitabh Singh reads, “With immediate effect, all (crew) are required to announce ”Jai Hind” at the end of every announcement after a slight pause and much fervour.”

Air India’s Chairman and Managing Director, Ashwani Lohani issued a similar direction in 2016 –

“The captain of a flight should often connect with passengers during the journey and, at the end of first address, using the words ”Jai Hind” would make a tremendous impact, also the cabin crew should greet the passengers while enplaning and deplaning with a ”namaskar” as was the tradition. A smile on the face and conversing sweetly and politely without an iota of irritation would be a good thing.”

Last month the government called back Lohani from retirement to head the cash strapped airline for two years.

Mr. Lohani was chairman for the first time between August 2015 and August 2017. He then was appointed railway board chairman in August 2017 and retired in December 2018.
