Ahead of crucial trust vote in Goa assembly, BJP escort MLAs to five-star resort

The new Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant will face a floor test on Wednesday. The BJP-led coalition Chief Minister took oath at a midnight ceremony held at the Raj Bhawan on Monday.

Before the crucial trust vote the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have escorted their MLAs to a five-star resort. The ruling BJP-led coalition have a total of 21 legislators, Congress 14 and NCP 1.

The government needs a majority of 19 to win the trust vote in the current 36 member assembly. The BJP is most likely to win by a lead of 2 votes.

The Congress meanwhile have accused the Governor Mridula Sinha as an “agent of the BJP”. The Congress emerged as the single largest party in Goa after 2017, had written multiple letters to the Governor to stake claim.

However the BJP, along with its coalition partners, the Goa Forward Party (GFP) and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) have been able to prove numbers before the governor.
