The Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi have filed a criminal complaint against BJP’s East Delhi candidate Gautam Gambhir for holding two voter IDs. The complaint was filed at the Tis Hazari Court in the national capital.
AAP East Delhi Lok Sabha candidate Atishi Marlena called for Gambhir’s immediate disqualification.
The crickets is alleged to have two voters IDs, one from Delhi’s Rajendra Nagar and the second from Karol Bagh. If true, the offence could cost him a year in prison.
The Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, “Voters should not waste their vote on someone who will get disqualified soon.”
Meanwhile, the former cricketer turned politician, Gautam Gambhir denied these allegations. He called them baseless claims, “First they makes allegations, then go to court and then apologise.”
As per Indian laws individuals can’t own two voter ID cards, if a person moves their residence to another assembly constituency, they would have to enrol once again and get the previous enrolment deleted. Voters ID are considered as official proof, even for citizenship.
