AAP – BJP threaten defamation suits against each other over pamphlet circulation

Gautam Gambhir, the BJP’s East Delhi candidate, sent notices to the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, his deputy Manish Sisodia and the Aam Aadmi Party’s star candidate Atishi after her party on Thursday accused him of circulating offensive pamphlets on her.

Gambhir has sent a defamation notice to the AAP trio demanding a public apology through Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s daughter Sonali Jaitley’s firm.

The former cricketer has demanded withdraw of their “false statements” and apology for making “baseless allegations” against him and said he will file a case of defamation against them if they don’t.

Manish Sisodia responding to the charges said, “You should apologise for your cheap tricks. We will file a defamation case. How dare you distribute the pamphlets and shamelessly accuse the Chief Minister.”

During  a press meet on Thursday, AAP’s Delhi East candidate Atishi broke down reading a pamphlet full of religious and sexist attacks on the candidate. Soon after the press conference Gambhir took to twitter to respond to the allegations, saying he would resign from elections if AAP proved the charges, but dared Kejriwal “if you don’t have any proof, will you retire from politics?”

The Delhi Commission For Women issued a notice to Delhi Police asking if it has registered an First Information Report or FIR over the circulation of the derogatory pamphlets.
