A fire was reported in Namibia’s Omusati Region after an elederly woman burned down her field while trying to kill a mouse.
The first incident at Ogongo left about a hectare of land in ashes.
88-year-old Ilona Nicodemus tried to burn grass after she saw a mouse.
The incident was reported on Sunday.
“According to the elderly woman, she noticed a mouse coming from the grass near her house and went into her sleeping room. She then decided to burn that grass in an attempt to kill the mouse, resulting in the fire spreading to other parts of the field,” Omusati Regional Police Commander, Commissioner Titus Shikongo said.
He added that the fire did not cause any injuries, loss of life or personal belongings.
