84 year old Zoramthanga Will Be Mizo CM

The Mizoram National Front (MNF) will form the Government in Mizoram.  MNF is an ally of the BJP led NDA Govt at the centre.  The party cross the majority mark comfortably all by itself, the election commission data put their count at 26. The majority mark in the 40 seat assembly is 21.

84-year-old Zoramthanga is set to be the Chief Minister. Zoramthanga has already staked claim to form government and the swearing-in of the new cabinet would take place next Saturday. He defeated the Congress five time chief minister Lal Thanhawla.

Mr. Lal lost both the seats that he contested in Mizoram.

On the brighter side of the Mizoram story the BJP opened their kitty by winning a single seat.

The Congress Party (INC) gained just 5 seats, but maintained a good 30% vote share. Congress paid for the Anti-incumbency against it.

With the loss in Mizoram, all the North East States of India have a non-Congress government for the first time at the same time. The Congress Party needs to change its approach on North East front before the 2019 general elections.

Below were the highlights during the course of the day.

The live blog of Mizoram Elections has been halted as a clear win has emerged . MNF party wins comfortably without any outside support from BJP or others.  The final results will be published at the end of day.
