Over 5 million women formed a 620 Km long ‘Women’s Wall’ in Kerala today. This is a state sponsored event, the Kerala Health Minister K K Shylaja will lead the chain at Kasargod and CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat will be the last person at the end of the chain in Thiruvananthapuram.
The wall aims to promote gender equality, renaissance values after a mega protests erupted when the Kerala government decided to implement the Supreme Court Verdict allowing all women to pray at the holy Ayyappa shrine.
Participants were asked to gather at 3 pm today for rehearsals, the actual wall was formed between 4 pm and 4:15 pm.
The Chief Minister of Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan said, “The protests by communal forces against women’s entry in Sabarimala prompted the government and other progressive organisations to build Women’s Wall in the state”.
The event was organised by the ruling CPI (M) and other 175 socio-political outfits.
RSS and other right wing outfits have raised objections to the event.
