2.0, starring Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar was off to its historic collections at the box office. The worldwide collections for day 1 was placed at ₹117 crore.
In India the movie opened in 4000 screens and about 10,000 screens worldwide. In the Indian market combining both the Hindi and Tamil versions collectively, collections stood at ₹80 crore, on the opening day.
The director Shankar and superstar himself Rajinikanth took to twitter to thank his fans for the support.
2.0 would only set new benchmarks for the film fraternity in India.
This movie, 2.0 is made on a budget of ₹543 crore, highest ever for any Indian film. The film recovered ₹370 crore through digital and satellite rights already.
2.0 features Rajinikanth as the protagonist (Dr Vaseegaran) and the antagonist (robot Chitti). In 2.0, Chitti is reassembled by Dr Vaseegaran to fight Dr Richards (Akshay Kumar), an ornithologist who has turned against human beings. It marks Akshay’s debut in the Tamil industry.
It also stars Sudhanshu Panday, Adil Hussain and Amy Jackson. The film’s music is composed by AR Rahman.
