10 dead in fire at coronavirus hotel facility in India’s Andhra Pradesh

At least ten people died after a massive fire broke out at a hotel that was being used as a COVID-19 facility in Andhra Pradesh’s Vijaywada early on Sunday.

At the time of the incident Hotel Swarna Palace hotel had 30 people quarantining at the facility. It had been taken on lease by Ramesh hospitals to house Covid patients.

The reason of fire appears to be a short circuit. The fire is suspected to have started on ground floor and spread to first and second floor.

Last week, eight COVID-19 patients died in a fire that broke out in the intensive care ward of a private hospital in Ahmedabad.

The state of Andhra Pradesh has reported 2,17,040 infections and 1,939 deaths. Overall India has reported over 2.16 million cases and 43585 coronavirus related deaths.
