1 Dead, 8 Wounded After School Shooting Outside Denver

Two people open fired inside a charter school in Denver, Colorado, killing an 18 year year old student and injuring eight others. The two students entered the Stem School Highlands Ranch and began shooting students in two classrooms.

Within minutes nearby sheriff’s department  entered the school and arrested the two suspects after a struggle. The two suspects that were taken into custody included an adult and a minor. The department said that they would not be releasing the images of the students to maintain the integrity of the investigation.

The suspects were not on law enforcement radars. The authorities were working to obtain warrants to search cars and homes of the suspects. Lines of firetrucks, ambulances and law enforcement vehicles from multiple agencies were at the school, and medical helicopters landed on a grassy fields.

The Stem School Highlands Ranch have over 1850 students studying from kindergarten and up to class 12, it is about 15 kilometers away from the Denver’s centre. The school hired private security and no school resource officer was not assigned.

The shooting put schools in the area on lockdown briefly.

The school will remain shut for a week following the incident.

The incident rattled an area that just marked the 20th anniversary of the deadly shooting at Columbine High School, about seven miles away from the Stem school.
